Begging

Pastor Randy Corbin,  Transitional Lead Pastor

The toddler’s scream shattered my reverie.

The three-year-old’s protestations came from the seat directly behind mine, row 17F.  I could not help but tune into the drama.

The flight attendant had just announced preparations for landing and directed all electronics to be turned off.  The problem was that junior was playing with Mom’s Ipad and he did not want it off.  So, he pleaded, then begged, then demanded, and finally burst into a full blown tantrum.
The boy had no understanding of the risk of keeping it on when the plane was landing.  So without pause he tearfully insisted he get his way.

As my personal frustration grew over his poor behavior, I quickly realized that there have been many times I have also pleaded, begged, and demanded of the Father that I have my request met.  It seemed to me that money to meet a bill, that ministry position, that healing, and that house would be exactly right.

But, on more than one occasion, God felt it wrong and while I pushed, urged, and requested, He knew that for my long-range good, I did not need what I was sure I did.

The highway of holiness is more about unconditional surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  “Thy (not my) will be done on earth as it is in heaven!”

The all-seeing, all-knowing God’s ways are higher than our ways.  His understanding is perfect as He lovingly guides us to a perfect end.

May begging God give way to yielding and surrendering to His wise will!
