Deception
Pastor Randy Corbin, Transitional Lead Pastor
When I had my first car accident at 16, I had a shocking revelation.
Upon seeing the car I hit (yes it was my fault), it was not the black car I had described to my dad. It was a white car.
We have all had the experience of discovering that what we thought we saw or believed was not accurate at all.
Scripture talks about being deceived by the god of this world. One of his common ploys is to get us to think that the highest values and possessions of this life hold the supreme position in our hearts. Yes, even as God-followers, we can live like the temporal is the eternal. It is not.
Everything around us, along with ourselves, are temporary.
The parable of the soils describes a scenario where the seed falls and takes root, but the cares and anxieties of this life strangle it to death. How many cares and anxieties are strangling an intimate communion and focus on the spiritual in our lives?
Let us not fall into the deception of the god of this age, thinking that our positions, geography, homes, family, and/or bank account are eternal values for us. Let us hold all that in the reality of their temporary state and see that our true permanence is in the heavenlies!
Therefore, we are not deceived. Nor, are we ignorant of satan’s devises!
